“At the end of the day, it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished. It’s about what you’ve done with those accomplishments. It’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back.”
– Denzel Washington

Over the past five years, we’ve grown from strength to strength thanks to the positive support received from the digital marketing community here in Dublin. At the core of Learn Inbound are the marketers who have attended our events, introduced us to companies interested in sponsoring us and provided feedback on what we’re doing right, and what needs improvement. We’ve evolved from a small meetup at Harry’s on the Green in November 2013 to a two-day conference coming up this September at the Mansion House.

Speaking personally, I’m so thankful for the awesome people I’ve met through Learn Inbound. When I moved to Dublin over five years ago, I didn’t know any other marketers; Learn Inbound provided a direct avenue to talented, like minded individuals. The combination of support and camaraderie both I and our team have received from Dublin has made us appreciate that there’s more we can do to give back to a city which has helped us to become what we are today.

With that in mind, we have partnered with Focus Ireland to help them raise money for those in dire need of help. The charity’s Annual Report 2017 found that at the end of 2016, there were 7,148 people homeless across Ireland, and this number shot up to 8,587 by December 2017. What’s even more heartbreaking about this figure is that one in every three of these people is a child who is facing life on the streets. In 2018, this figure continues to rise with more children being born into homelessness. Figures for May of this year show that family homelessness had risen by 31% in the previous 12 months. While Focus Ireland may have helped 14,500 people who were at risk of homeless in the past year, there’s still a lot more work for them to do.

In Dublin alone,  last month, 92 families became newly homeless, this is the highest June figure ever recorded. Only three years ago in June 2015, there were 1,318 children homeless nationally.  This was seen as shocking at the time but the total has now trebled in only 3 years to a shameful 3,824. The number of families homeless has shot up by 170% in the same period from 650 in June 2015 to 1,754 in June 2018.

How You Can Help

Save the date: Thursday, August 9, 2018. The revenue from each ticket we sell on this date for our two-day conference in September will be donated in its entirety to Focus Ireland. If you have yet to purchase a ticket to next month’s conference put a reminder for August 9. Each ticket sold will help Focus Ireland make a difference in the lives of those in desperate need of assistance.

You will also have the opportunity to donate money directly to Focus Ireland at their exhibition stand during the September conference.

Kevin O’Sullivan of Focus Ireland commented:

“The interest and support of Learn Inbound is a terrific boost to Focus Ireland, and the men, women and children we work with, at a time of increased demands on our services nationally. In Dublin alone, our Coffee Shop in Temple Bar has played a huge role for single homeless people for the last 30 years, and in recent times increasing numbers of families.”

We hope you can join us in this worthy cause. Small acts of kindness can encourage positive social impact on a grand scale. Let us play our part to support Focus Ireland’s efforts to reduce the level of homeless in Dublin and across Ireland as a whole. Everyone deserves some place to call home. Don’t you agree?
